New Spring : The Novel (Wheel of Time) review:4 stars (Better than I expected) - As this series has gotten worse, I have switched to buying the softcover edition instead of the hardcover edition to save money and space- and therefore just read this.
For all of you who have been buying books every 2 years - and debating whether to keep doing so - buy this.
This was a FUN read - and reminded me of why I got hooked on this series in the first place. I had read a review complaining there was too much fluff (e.g., descriptions of Tar Valon) - nonsense. While the book was not deep it was a pleasure to follow. Reading this provides insight into the relationship between Lan and Moiraine. READ THIS!!
5 stars (Prequel is Better Than Nothing) - At first I was upset that a prequel would most likely push back the release date of #11, but I'm glad I bought it. Jordan's writing seemed fresh again, something that has seemed draining in the last few books of the series. The same old continuations of the adventures of Rand, Mat & Perrin have gotten stale, with not much happening over hundreds of pages. It was nice to go to something new and stories that weren't overdone and dragged out. I can't wait for Book 11 or the next prequel!!1 stars (jesus christ, such trite fantasy) - I decided to read this book before I started the Wheel of Time itself, and I am very happy that I did not start that series. The christian ideals of good and evil are so overdone in fantasy books that I am considering going back in time and killing Tolkien in his African homeland. Seriously, do not read this novel. George R.R Martin's song of ice and fire is such a better series.
